State-of-the-art solar canopy at Patriot Place
At the home of the New England Patriots, a new solar canopy and rooftop panels nearly triple the solar power output at Patriot Place, an outdoor shopping and dining center next to Gillette Stadium.
Patriot Place was already producing 525 kWh of electricity from a photovoltaic power system. The new NRG system adds 1 MW to that output — about 60 percent of the shopping center's power.
The new system consists of both standard and translucent solar panels that will cover many of Patriot Place's outdoor walkways, providing power and protecting guests from the elements. About 3,000 more panels was installed on an adjacent store's roof.
The system reduces carbon emissions by more than 800 metric tons. Patriot Place is dedicated to lowering energy costs and sustainable initiatives. The facility features a reflective roof, low-VOC paints and sealants, energy-efficient lights and Energy Star qualified equipment. This is just one of many projects that reflects NRG's pro football initiative.
