NRG teams with the San Francisco 49ers at football's smartest stadium
Down, set, innovate! NRG has joined the Niners to bring solar power to the team's state-of-the-art stadium. The 375kW installation provides enough power over the course of a year to offset the power consumed at the stadium during home games.
The unique partnership helps the new facility become the first pro football stadium to open with LEED® certification. Deemed the smartest stadium in the league by the Associated Press, NRG will install several innovative solar elements, including three solar array-covered bridges and a solar canopy above the green roof on the suite tower portion of the stadium.
As a result, Levi's® Stadium is predicted to be the first Californian pro sports venue to achieve net zero energy performance. The host of Super Bowl 50, the venue maintains NRG's philosophy of creating iconic solar elements at pro football stadiums.
NRG will continue to explore other opportunities to help enhance the stadium's sustainability efforts, such as installing electrical vehicle charging stations to the new stadium. The 49ers' new home will be ready for the kickoff of the 2014 football season.
