Community
Giving back to our community is a primary focus of our organization.
The winning candidate will demonstrate excellence in some or all of the following:
- Provide in-kind support of local or national projects
- Describe their impact and achievements in philanthropic efforts and/or community involvement
- Demonstrate employees’ philanthropic leadership in their communities
Sustainability
Looking ahead at tomorrow’s sustainable energy solutions is crucial to our collective future.
The winning candidate will demonstrate excellence in some or all of the following:
- Go above and beyond standard sustainability practices to achieve notable environmental and/or social benefits
- Reflect a significant change in their environmental impact and include provisions for ongoing monitoring, measuring, and optimization.
- Share other projects that focus on sustainability
- Achieve notable and sustained environmental and/or social benefits
Energy Efficiency
Implementing energy efficient solutions frees up the grid and creates opportunities for others to attain reliable and dependable energy.
The winning candidate will demonstrate excellence in some or all of the following:
- Institute upgrades that result in energy savings and capital improvements
- Show savings associated with new technology at the maximum technical potential and at the estimated achievable potential
- Report expenditures or energy savings over a specific period
- Complete an energy audit and achieve benchmark goals
- Participate in demand response programs that shift electricity consumption away from peak load times
Eligibility
Candidates must be mid-market or large business customers with an active power or natural gas supply contract through NRG Business, Direct Energy Business, Reliant Energy, Green Mountain Energy, or Cirro Energy. Energy Efficiency, Sustainability, and NRG Demand Response customers are also eligible. Note, each customer may submit a total of three nominations, one per category. Submission window
July 12, 2023 – midnight, August 31, 2023
Selection process
A panel of judges will review the submissions and score the nominations based on the essay criteria. Each criterion will be scored between zero and ten. Scores will be averaged for each nomination and then across all nominations. Winners are selected based on the highest total scores in each category. For more information, see our Contest Rules.

Award winners will be announced during a virtual ceremony held on Thursday, November 16, 2023.
