Petra Nova Carbon Capture System (CCS) placed in reserve shutdown
Like many businesses across the country, Petra Nova has been impacted by the effects of the worldwide economic downturn, including the demand for and the price of oil. Given the current status of oil markets, the decision was made to suspend carbon capture operations at Petra Nova, effective May 1, 2020.
The carbon capture facility has been placed in a reserve shutdown status to allow it to be brought back online when economic conditions improve.
As the oil price environment evolves, NRG will continue to evaluate options for Petra Nova.
