[HOUSTON, TX] — [July 15, 2026] — NRG Energy, Inc. today announced the launch of Brighter Communities, a new enterprise-wide program designed to unify the company’s philanthropic giving and community engagement across its teams, sites, and brands.
Brighter Communities brings together NRG’s existing programs, resources, and partnerships under a single framework, strengthening the company’s ability to deliver measurable impact while creating more opportunities for employees and partners to give back.
“One of the things that makes our company special is how our people show up — not just for the business, but for each other and for the communities around us,” said Gin Kinney, Chief People Officer at NRG. “Brighter Communities brings a more intentional, connected, and consistent approach to investing in the places we live and work.”
The new program creates a cohesive approach to philanthropy and volunteerism across the organization. Employees across roles, locations, and work environments can participate in flexible opportunities to volunteer, donate, and engage in the communities where NRG operates.
"Meaningful community change happens when businesses and nonprofits work side by side toward a shared goal,” said Allison Hay, Chief Executive Officer at Houston Habitat for Humanity. “NRG's commitment to showing up — through volunteer hours, financial support, and sustained partnership — has made a tangible difference for the families and communities we serve. Brighter Communities reflects exactly the kind of intentional, long-term investment that helps organizations like ours do more. We're proud to be part of this effort and look forward to what we can build together."
NRG’s community investments are guided by four giving pillars aligned to the company’s strengths and areas of impact:
These pillars help ensure that NRG’s giving is focused, strategic, and aligned with the company’s core expertise in energy and home services.
Brighter Communities creates year-round opportunities for employees to engage through volunteering, donations, and community programs. Employees can participate in local volunteer opportunities, donate to causes they care about, and track their impact and contributions.
In 2025 alone, NRG’s commitment to community investment was reflected in its impact:
The launch of Brighter Communities builds on this momentum, positioning NRG to scale its efforts and deliver even greater community impact in the years ahead.
